  • Lisa Baldwin has been selected as the 2014 May Day Mom.
Baldwin was nominated by her daughter Meredith, a third grade student in Mrs. Michelle Allen’s class at George Washington Carver Elementary. Meredith wrote the following essay, which was chosen out of 300 entries in the 26th annual contest sponsored by the Neosho Area Chamber of Commerce:
“The Greatest Mom IN The World”
My mom defiantly should be voted for the May Day Mom contest, because she works very hard for other kids, she always makes time for me, my sister, and my brother, and she works very hard for food for our table at night.
My mom works harder than anyone (I know) to educate children.  She helps them learn to read and write. One time, my mom went to school even when her tooth was aching like crazy, it felt as if she was going to die, and she cried. She believed and soon, very soon, her tooth got better.
My mom is more than amazing, and I know the competition is stiff, but I don’t have to ride in a limo to know my mom is special! Don’t get me wrong I still want a ride in a limo. This is about my mom though not about the limo. She believes in me, and I believe in her. I love my mom and I will always love her, she will always love me to. I know I’m not the best but I know for a fact my mom is.
Upon being presented the award and an array of gifts in the chamber office Friday afternoon, Mrs. Baldwin said she was, “Shocked and humbled; I teared up a little bit; I mean, I’m just realized surprise because I’ve known about the contest because I’ve read about it in the paper before. But with the number of students entering, just the thought of her one essay being chosen was overwhelming.”
The seventh grade English teacher at Neosho Middle School concluded of her daughter, “I’m very proud of her!”
Speaking about her mother, Meredith said, “I think she’s awesome and amazing and I think she’s so good that I had something good to write about her.”
Bill Reiboldt, Dist. 160 State Rep., Neosho, presented Baldwin with a Resolution from the Missouri House of Representatives, proclaiming her as the 2014 May Day Mom in Neosho.
Then Lisa and Meredith, along with little sister Miranda, were carted off to be treated to an afternoon of pampering on Friday as they were escorted around in a chauffeur-driven limousine provided by Clark Funeral Home. Baldwin was presented with a selection of gifts provided by several local merchants, including Advantage Health Care, Beck Floral, Clark Funeral Home, Edgewood Bowl, Family Pharmacy, Flour Box Bakery, Front Page, Jarden Consumer Solutions, Joyful Journey’s, McDonalds of Neosho, Mitchell’s Downtown Drug Store, Neosho Beauty College, Neosho Gifts Etcetera, Parks Insurance, and Peking Garden.
