  • Neosho residents will be able to observe “America’s Pastime,” as tickets are now on sale for “Neosho Community Night with the Springfield Cardinals.”
The event is sponsored by the Neosho Area Chamber of Commerce – which began back in 2006, continued steadily until 2012 – and then took a couple of years off.
“The game is at 2:10 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 17,” said Lauri Lyerla, executive director of the chamber. “It is going to be open to all area Neosho residents. We are excited about it (the game). They (Springfield Cardinals) are offering a new program to us, I think that we are the first community that they are doing it with, it is to provide a T-shirt that will be a Neosho Springfield Cardinals T-shirt with a ticket purchase. Those will be $13 for the ticket and the T-shirt. The cutoff to get the T-shirt is Aug. 4.”
For those who just want to purchase the tickets without the T-shirt, tickets are $9 each. Also, Lyerla noted that the T-shirts are adult sizes only and for those who want a 2x or 3x size, the price jumps to $2 for the total of $15.
“We will be in section ‘M’ is where they have reserved the tickets, which is right behind third base,” she said. “They said it is a great place because as the sun sets, that will be in the shade.”
The Springfield Cardinals will be playing Midland (Texas) RockHounds. Hiland Dairy will also be having free ice cream party for kids before the game. Also, after the game, kids can run the bases just like the Cardinals do.
“We will have someone do the National Anthem,” she said. “If we sell enough tickets, we might be able to pick up one of the first pitches, so we are hoping to sell plenty of tickets so that we can be represented by one of first pitches.”
In the past Neosho Nights at the stadium, the chamber’s citizen of the year has thrown out the traditional first pitch.
About a week before the game, Lyerla said that the T-shirts should be ready.
“(That way) if people want to put their business logos on the back, they would probably have time to do that too,” she said.
The tickets and the shirts can be picked up at the chamber’s office, once they get the shirts and the tickets back into their office. People will be able to drive themselves up to the game.
Lyerla said that since the announcement on Friday of the game, she has had some already inquire about the ballgame.
“I had some interest right away,” she said. “We can take the orders now. (The game) will be fun.”
