  • Three people were seriously injured in the collision of an SUV and a tractor-trailer Wednesday afternoon. One of those victims, Lucille Doris Harris, 91, Neosho, died of her injuries Thursday afternoon.
Neosho police report that the rig, operated by Carroll D. Tilton, 46, Hiawatha, Kan., was traveling northbound on Interstate 49 when he exited the highway at Route AA south of Neosho. Police cite a witness who stated that the truck stopped at the intersection, and then continued across AA to go back onto northbound I-49, pulling into the path of the SUV, driven westbound by Kenny Dean Gill, 32, Neosho. Officers report that the passenger vehicle struck the passenger side of the rig as the truck was three-quarters through the intersection.
Gill and passengers, Harris, and Virginia Matasha Gill, 32, Neosho, were all hospitalized with serious injuries at Freeman West in Joplin following the 3:45 p.m. wreck. Police reported later that Harris was pronounced dead at Freeman West at 3:37 p.m. the following day. Another passenger in the SUV, newborn Brantley Gill, Neosho, was uninjured, as was Tilton.
Due to injuries sustain in the crash of a commercial vehicle, Tilton was tested for alcohol, and results were negative.
