  • Rodeo to begin tonight

  • The 2nd annual Roughrider Scholarship Rodeo for Crowder College commences this evening and continues Saturday in the Roughrider Arena, 608 Field Ave. at the Newton County Fairgrounds, Neosho.
    Advance tickets are on sale for $10 adults, $8 for children, age five and under are free, from the Crowder College Bookstore, Eric Norris State Farm Insurance, and First Community Bank locations in Neosho and Goodman. Tickets at the gate are $12 for adults and $10 for children.
    Named the ACRA (American Cowboy Rodeo Association) 2013 New Rodeo of the Year, gates to the Roughrider Rodeo open at 6 p.m., the same time vendor booths open and the Crowder Aggie Club begins to cater a smoked beef dinner.
    Mutton Bustin registration opens for children age seven and under – and 65 pounds and under – and then the Mutton Bustin begins at 7:15. Bill Reiboldt, Dist. 160 state representative, will make a flag presentation at 7:45 p.m., and then the show starts at 8 p.m. The schedule is the same for both tonight and Saturday.
    Earlier in the day, fans are encouraged to participate in autograph signing with rodeo stars and the ACRA Rodeo Queen from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday between the doors in the front of Neosho WalMart. That will also be the last opportunity to purchase presale tickets at the discount price.
