Diamond Football Coach Jimmy Dushane is getting his team ready for their first game against McAuley Catholic on Friday, Aug. 22, at Diamond.

“I would probably say that I have seven returning on offense and probably six on defense,” said Dushane. “[The returning starters are] Tanner Paradies, Evan Moreland, Remmington Renfro, Wyatt Rook and Kyle Williams.”

Diamond — who is in the Spring River Valley Conference — record last year was 4-6.

“The challenge ahead is making sure that everybody stays healthy and that my young kids develop as fast as I think that they will,” he said. “We have to play that conference, it is a tough conference.”
Diamond will have to play Sarcoxie, Miller, Jasper, Lockwood, Greenfield and Pierce City, to name a few.

Dushane said the team is concentrating on fundamentals.

“You have to get fundamentals, you have to be fundamentally sound to have success, in my opinion,” he said.

Dushane said he is planning on having a good offense and defense this year.

“We are planning on having a strong offense, strong defense, and plan on playing as many players as we can possibly can play to keep people fresh,” he said. “I might start two freshmen, I know for a fact that I am starting at least three sophomores. As a coaching staff, our philosophy is that we are going to get the best players on the field, and when those kids need rest, we are going to have the same confidence in the kids that are coming off the sidelines as those that we did who come in. as far as the people starting, we have a good mixture.”

Dushane said that last year, their average rushing and passing totals for the 10-game average was “about 170 passing and 170 rushing,” he said.
