  • Diamond quarterback Evan Moreland connected 21 times for 318 passing yards and three touchdowns as the Wildcats downed the McAuley Warriors 34-7 in their home opener Friday night.
Moreland had TD passes of 29, 15 and 39 yards in the contest. While the first quarter was scoreless, Diamond got things started in the second with Moreland hitting Kyle Williams with a 29-yard bomb. The two run pass conversion failed, making it 6-0 Diamond.
In the third stanza, the Wildcats’ Tristan Shepherd had a four-yard carry into the end zone, to make the score 12-0. A point after attempt failed.
Later that quarter, Moreland connected with Tanner Paradeis for a 15-yard touchdown pass. The PAT kick failed, making it 18-0.
In the fourth quarter, Carter Prewitt was on the receiving end of a 39-yard Moreland missile, bringing the Wildcats to 24-0. Taking the snap, Moreland fired off a pass to Williams for the two-point conversion, bringing the tally to 26-0.
MaAuley would answer with some scoring drive that put the Warriors on the 6-yard line. Andrew Castillo had the carry into the end zone, with Adam Robertson’s PAT kick sailing through the uprights.
But Diamond would answer in spectacular fashion later in the final stanza, with Shepherd getting a 65-yard carry and Williams having a successful run conversion.
Now 1-0, Diamond heads on the road Friday to face the Jasper Eagles.
