  • After securing almost $5 million dollars last week to fund proposed road projects, Neosho Transportation Development District (TDD) board members united with other vested partners Monday morning to announce that the highest priority of the projects to be completed in 2015 will be the extension of Hale McGinty Drive from Neosho Middle school to U.S. Highway 60
Gathering at 7:45 a.m. in front of the middle school to accentuate the traffic congestion as parents drop off their students were representatives of the city of Neosho, Neosho R-5 School District, Newton County Commission, Neosho Special Road District and the Missouri Department of Transportation (MoDOT).
“The extension of Hale McGinty Drive and the improvement of the intersection of Waldo Hatler and Hale McGinty will improve traffic flow and safety at the Neosho Middle School,” said Steve Roark, TDD chairman.
Roark said the TDD board has requested that MoDOT prioritize that portion of the proposed projects, with the hope that it will be completed by the beginning of the 2015-2016 school year.
He said the extension will provide additional points of access to the middle school, the widening of the intersection will also ease congestion and improve safety.
Dan Decker, R-5 superintendent, said parking at the middle school will be expanded, which will also enhance parent drop off. He said the two organizations have shown that by working together they can create solutions.
“The cooperation between the Neosho TDD board and the Neosho R-5 School District demonstrates the power of partnership and the value of true community spirit,” said Decker.
