KNEO 91.7 FM Radio is sponsoring the Summer Awakening on Thursday, with a special guest, Rafael Cruz, the father of U.S. Senator Ted Cruz.

Cruz will be speaking at 7 p.m. at the Joplin Family Worship Center, 5290 E. 7th St., Joplin. The event is open to everyone. There is no admission fee, however a love offering will be taken.

“The main purpose is to stir American voters to know the facts and truths about America,” said Mark Taylor, general manager of KNEO. “He will speak on our nation’s foundational principals and the great need to return to the principles that have made America great.”

Born in Cuba, living under a cruel and oppressive dictator, Cruz was imprisoned. In 1957, he came with only the clothes on his back and began to work for 50 cents an hour. In pursuit of the American dream, he built a small business and became an ordained minister. He would tell his son, Ted, “As a child growing up I faced oppression in Cuba and had a place to flee; but here in America, if we lose our freedom, where do we go?”

This is the first time that Cruz has been to the Joplin/Neosho area.
Cruz now travels the country sharing his story and speaking on the biblical foundation of our nation. He encourages Christians to return to the principles that made America exceptional.

“All who attend will have a rare opportunity to hear how the real American dream can be achieved,” Taylor said. “I am hoping that people will become more active citizens, patriots and renew the nations biblical priorities.”

Today, Cruz is a pastor based in North Texas ministering in the U.S., Mexico and Central America. He is also a professor of Bible and theology, and the president of Kingdom Translation Services.
