ANDERSON — The McDonald County Mustangs found their way into the winner’s column for the first time in 2018 with a 21-13 victory Friday night over the Logan-Rogersville Wildcats.

Senior running back Oakley Roessler enjoyed his second big night in as many nights this season, following his 200-yard plus effort and one 80-yard touchdown run effort against Marshfield with 123 yards and one touchdown on 23 carries against Logan-Rogersville.

Roessler began the scoring Friday night with a 5-yard run for the only points of the first quarter.

The Mustangs took a 14-0 lead into intermission thanks to a Joe Brown 1-yard run. McDonald County kicker Dylan Allison made both extra points.

Logan-Rogersville found its way on the scoreboard in the third on a 9-yard pass from Zachary Bergmann to A.J. Craft.

In the fourth, McDonald County struck first with a Brown 1-yard run.

The Wildcats could only dent one more score on the final number, with a Bergmann 3-yard run closing out the scoring.

McDonald County quarterback Ben Mora, making his second start after taking over for graduated multi-year starting quarterback Peyton Barton, improved much in his second game with 87 yards passing on 7 of 11 accuracy and 63 yards rushing on 13 carries, nearly five yards per rush.

The Mustangs, 1-1 overall, open Big 8 West play in Week 3 against rival East Newton, who dropped to 0-2 overall with a 33-0 loss Friday to Aurora.

East Newton currently owns a 14-game losing streak, dating back to a 56-34 win over McDonald County in Week 7 of the 2016 season.

However, the Patriots have not scored a single point in their last three games, dating back to a district playoff loss to Newton County rival Seneca.
