This coming Friday and Saturday, the historic Neosho downtown Square will be transformed into an epicenter of culture and artistic beauty as the newly-formed Neosho Arts Council sponsors the first-ever ArtSquared event.

This event is more than an art show — it’s a festival celebrating the arts.

There’s going to be something for every taste, and every age.

The event is being put on by the Neosho Arts Council, with financial assistance for the project being provided by the Missouri Association of Community Arts Agencies, and the Missouri Arts Council, a state agency with Challenge American funds from the National Endowment for the Arts.

John Mills serves as president of the Neosho Arts Council, which has been busy this spring with several events, including the PhotoSquared kids photo competition, and the refrigerator coloring and drawing art contest for children. The winners and best works from those two contests will be on display in The Civic during the ArtSquared event this weekend.

This weekend’s ArtSquared event is just another example of what the future of the square should be in Neosho — a place to hold major events in our community.

And these events will help draw interest to downtown, and also help draw visitors to our community from neighboring towns and regions. All in an effort to increase awareness of what Neosho has to offer, and increase revenues to our existing businesses and sales tax base.

Two weeks ago, the third annual Neosho Car and Bike Cruise Night drew its biggest crowd ever in both the number of cars brought down to show on the square, and the visitors taking part in the event.

The car show was such a big hit that the chamber will be holding its second such event on Saturday, June 26, as part of the first-ever “An American Celebration on the Square.”

The celebration will feature a car and motorcycle show, barbecue provided by the Knights of Columbus, apple pie and ice cream, music and, of course, fireworks. The event will begin at 4 p.m., and end with the fireworks display after dusk.

Now, add this weekend’s awesome ArtSquared event, and this summer’s slate of events on the square continues to grow and get better with each year.

Of course, it all ends with the family-friendly Summer Social on the Square event the final weekend of August.

So, please make sure and mark your calendar and attend this weekend’s new ArtSquared event. See the schedule with this column to get all the details on activities and shows.

Don’t miss out on enjoying this new event in Neosho.
