The “Jazz Between Friends” concert started as just that. Dr. Phillip Wise, professor of music and director of jazz studies at MSSU, called a few friends together.
“We’re blessed in this area to have some real quality jazz musicians,” Wise said.
“This is a chance for those outstanding musicians to come together and for the audience to enjoy a high level of musicianship.”
Much of the concert will be what Wise calls “straight ahead swing jazz” with jazz standards like “Bernie’s Tune,” “Beautiful Love,” “The Days of Wine and Roses” and “Beatrice.” It will also feature
some of Wise’s own new bossa nova compositions.
The musicians are: Scott Harris, trumpet; Wes Smith, tenor saxophone; Bob Ensor, piano; Joe Leiter, guitar; Robert Terry, bass; Damon Graue, drums and Dr. Phillip Wise, trombone.
