A scrapbooking crop event on Saturday will help fund an area support group for mothers.

The Neosho Mothers of Preschoolers (MOPS) chapter will host a 12-hour crop at Calvary of Neosho to help fund the group’s activities. Twice a month during the school year, they meet for a time of fellowship, some activities, brunch and either a speaker or a video devotion on topics from finance to women’s health.

Anyone is welcome to the fundraiser crop. MOPS meetings are targeted toward mothers of children from birth to kindergarten or mothers-to-be.

“We have speakers,” said Patty Lett, coordinator for the Calvary MOPS group, “and we just talk about our lives as mothers and ways to help our children become better children, help us become better moms, better women and wives and things that can enhance our children’s lives and enhance our lives.”

While their mothers are in MOPS, children attend the MOPPETS program tended by volunteers.

“They have their own little Bible story lesson, they sing songs, they’ll have a snack, do a craft activity,” Lett said.

Mothers discuss parenting issues and offer advice based on their experiences.

“It’s just a time for moms to know that their children are well-taken care of and they can have some ‘me’ time,” Lett said. “They can work out things they need help with.”

The scrapbooking event is a good way to make friends.

“It’s just a time to come out and have uninterrupted time to work on your scrapbook with friends,” Lett said. “And know that you’re going to get something accomplished and you’re not having to work around anybody getting into your stuff.

Lett asks that attendees respond before noon Friday so they can have an accurate count for door prizes.

The MOPS Winter Crop will be held from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Saturday at Calvary of Neosho. In case of severe weather it will be rescheduled for Feb. 20. The Calvary MOPS meets the first and third Thursday of the month from 9 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.
