On Saturday, Tim and Janette Murphy organized the Granby Fireman’s Car Show, held in front of Granby House on Main Street.
The car show proceeds went to Granby Fire Department. The divisions included: 1959 and older, 1960-1969, 1970-1979, 1980-1989, 1990-1999, 2000 and newer, Po Boy’s best, trucks, customized. First place trophies for each division and one 2-foot trophy for “best of show,” were presented.
Around 25 different cars were present.
“I think that it is fantastic. I am with the Goodman Fire Department myself,” said Gary Huff, who brought his 1965 Chrysler 300.
“The paint concept came from my brother-in-law, he painted it the first time, I painted the next two times,” Huff said. “It is now a two-door; it was a four-door.”
“It gets me from Point A to Point B. It is not anything to get out there and hot-rod about,” he said. “It is just fun to drive down the road and turn heads.”
Another vehicle spotted during the car show was a 1967 Galaxie 500, with a 289 engine.
“It is the original motor, original transmission, all original wiring in it,” said Tom Cole, owner of the car. “Original chrome on it, everything is original except the engine has been rebuilt. It rides like a new one. It is a real good ride.”
Like Huff, Cole said, he attended the car show to support the firemen.
“I think that it is a good deal. Every little town needs all of the help that they get now,” he said.
Proceeds from Saturday’s event went to the Granby Fire Department.
“It will be used for different items that don’t have to go before council. We could get like GPS for the trucks or training,” said Tim Murphy.
