Plus four. That is the most important thing to take away from Seneca’s 40-0 win over Nevada Friday night, according to Seneca head coach Dan Scheible.

“We had no turnovers,” Scheible said. “And we caused four from them. I think it was a total team effort. We caused two big fumbles on our kickoff coverage.”

Perhaps the next most important aspect was the way the Indians dictated the tempo of the game.

“We did a great job controlling the ball with our running game, we had two backs go over 100 yards,” Scheible said. “The tailback position played well, with both Marty Mailes and Braxton Graham. Both of them went over 100 yards. Payton Rawlins was 5-for-5 passing with two touchdowns passing the ball. And Kyler Ng had a good game catching the ball.”

On defense, Seneca had its way with Nevada for most of the night. The Indians bent on a few occasions, but never broke en route to a big shutout.

“Dalton Lindsey and Marty Mailes had great games (on defense),” Scheible said. “They had a lot of tackles and they were actively involved in what our defense was doing this week. They made a lot of plays.”

Despite the fact that there were no turnovers and no points allowed, Scheible still sees things that can get better.

“We felt that both sides of the ball had some mistakes in assignments that we just can’t have. We have to get those corrected,” Scheible said. “I would say the biggest things are X’s and O’s, but there are some responsibilities.”
The win was Scheible’s first as Seneca head coach. He gives all credit to the team and the way they handled themselves all night.

“It was a great win,” Scheible said. “The heat was a big factor and we were on the road. I was very proud of the maturity they showed.”
