Foundations unite for common goal

Two local foundations have come together for one cause.

The Christopher Foundation, which raises public awareness of pediatric cancer, and the Angel Eyes Charitable Foundation, which helps raise awareness brain tumors and cancer, have announced an inaugural Foundations Golf Tournament to be played the weekend of April 11-12.

The event will open with 18 holes of golf and refreshments at the Neosho Municipal Golf Course on Friday, April 11, and will conclude with 18 holes of golf and dinner at Briarbrook Country Club in Carl Junction on Saturday, April 12.

Proceeds from the weekend event will support the missions of the two Neosho foundations. Angel Eyes Foundation honors the life of Hazel Birdsong, who died on Sept. 7, 2005, of a brain tumor.

The Christopher Foundation honors the life of Christopher Cooley, who died on Feb. 4, 2001, of neuroblastoma.

Both charitable foundations, established by the families of Birdsong and Cooley, provide a variety of programs and services to local parents and families affected by brain tumors and pediatric cancer.

Their work is supported by contributions raised at several events held throughout the year.

The golf tournament will be a four-person mixed scramble. The entry fee is $600 per team, which includes prizes and meals on both Friday and Saturday. The tournament is limited to 50 teams.

Entry forms are available from the pro shops at the Neosho Municipal Golf Course and Briarbrook Country Club.

The deadline to enter is Friday, April 4.
