Every month, a YMCA group, Active Older Adults, gather for some fun, food and an activity.
In January, the group had a “Winterlicious Dance Party” and learned a few moves from Zumba, a dance and exercise program set to merengue, salsa, cumbia and reggae music.
Michelle Mitchell, new Zumba instructor with the YMCA, walked the group through a dance from each rhythm.
Jan Johnston knows her Zumba. She has taken classes before through the Y and said it’s a fun form of exercise.
“It’s the thing that got me motivated to exercise,” Johnston said. “The more you do, the more you want to do.”
Zumba classes at the Neosho YMCA are held Wednesdays at 10 a.m. and Mondays at 6 p.m.
“It was a lot of fun,” said group member Cherri Link.
This month, the group will meet on Feb. 17 and play Valentine's-themed bingo. For more information about the group, call the Y at 455-9998.
