For the second year, a local banking institution has helped a local agency to provide Christmas gifts to 60 children in the Jasper and Newton counties.

Community Bank & Trust (CBT) provided just under $1,100 to purchase gifts for “littles” taking part in programs of Big Brothers, Big Sisters of Jasper and Newton Counties.

On Dec. 3, the group held a Christmas party at the Christ Church of Oronogo.

“I think that there were a lot of them that thought they were not going to get a present, so they were pretty excited,” Springer said. “There were a lot of smiles on the bigs and the littles that night. As part of both sides of it, it was a real blessing to see the excitement in some of those kids as they got a gift. It was just not something that someone grabbed off of the shelf somewhere, it was a gift that there was some thought that went into it.”
