The big American flag which flies near the Walmart intersection in Neosho, is off and will soon return.
"Most people don't understand that Neosho Exchange Club is handles that flag, the flag is down and it will be (down) until later in the month," said Kevin Wilson, a member of the Exchange Club and on the rededication committee. "At 2 p.m. on (Sunday) March 26, we are having a rededication ceremony. Sen. Ron Richard has donated a flag and those  (cost of a 30' X 60' is $1,200 for the big flags). Here in the month, we will be repairing the cable, repainting it - we have got a crew coming in that is going to repaint it. We are going to do some landscaping. (In the meantime) we are going to turn the lights off to it - because there is no reason to have electricity there when there is not a flag."
Along with the repainting and the flag, another key component will be revamped.
"We are taking all of the plaques off of the walls of people who supported and we are re-doing them, freshening them up and then rehanging them, paint the wall, and that is all going to be part of the rededication," he said. "We raise the funds, we keep the flag flying, we pay the electricity on it, we pay the repairs. La-Z-Boy - when the flags, the flags take a lot of damage on windy days, so when the flags start ripping and tearing, La-Z-Boy has been a big partner in repairing those until we can no longer repair them."
The flag was originally dedicated on July 4, 2002.  It is 120 feet tall and the big flag is 30x60 and the small one is 20x30 (cost is $600).
Wilson wanted to reassure that the flag will fly again.
"The flag again will fly - that is a huge symbol of Neosho, the patriotism and the love of the country the city has," he said. "People feel like it is their flag, that is what we like. we like the fact that people notice when its not flying and we just want them to know and the reason for it and encourage everyone to come out on March 26."
