For nearly six months, the Neosho YMCA pool was closed down for repairs. On June 5, it reopened.
"We closed at the end of November (2016) and the reason for that is the unit that controls the humidity it had stopped working," said Kaney Tyler, branch manager. "And as the temperatures got cooler, we weren't able to open the doors, to have any air ventilation and it just got too dangerous, it was too stuffy in there. So then it took it was suppose to take 16-18 weeks to build the new unit and it ended up taking about 20 to 22 weeks. Now that it is in there, it has made a world of difference."
The pool is open from 5:30 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Friday; 11 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Saturday and 1:30-4:30 p.m. Sunday.
"There are a lot of people who do laps, we offer five different water fitness classes, our after school program use it, our day camp kids use it, preschool kids use it, we have swim lessons and people that just come in for recreational swimming," she said.
Tyler is pleased for the pool to be back in operation.
"People are very excited to be back and we are very excited to have it open," she said. "We are super excited that it is back open, I think that it is a big need for it in the community. We are glad that we can offer that now that it is up and going."
