Rain showers held off until after the Opening Ceremonies at the 50th Annual Newton County Fair on Wednesday afternoon.
Bill Thogmartin, Newton County A & M President, served as the master of ceremonies in the Jim Russell Show Arena at the fairgrounds.
"Thanks to everyone for coming out to our 50th annual Newton County Fair," Thogmartin said. "This year marks the 50th year of this fair and we're proud to welcome you out!"
Thogmartin introduced the members of the 2017 Newton County Fair Royalty and led the crowd in reciting the Pledge of Allegiance, followed by the National Anthem performed on a violin.
Thogmartin thanked a number of fair supporters for their help, especially La-Z-Boy Midwest for their financial donations that have helped to enhance and improve the fairgrounds in recent years.
"We are glad you are here," Thogmartin said. "We want to welcome everyone to the fair. If you have any questions, any suggestions or ideas about something we need to do better, we're here to listen."
