MONARK SPRINGS — For the last 10 years, Steve Rempel of Oklahoma, has attended the annual National Campmeeting for the Church of God.
The campmeeting was held from Friday, July 21 to July 30, at the campground in Monark Springs.
"We just enjoy the fellowship. a lot of our friends and the gospel message, our souls get fed here," said Rempel. "It (meeting) really brings strength in us when you hear other people's testimonies, their struggles and how they had victory, it brings encouragement."
This annual National Campmeeting - which has been going on for 79 years - is the largest of its kind among the Church of God in the United States. People come from all over the country each year to attend - many of them using much of their vacation time to come. People come from Florida, West Virginia, Wisconsin, Oregon, California, Louisiana, and many places in between.  also usually have some attending from other countries (Canada, Mexico, Honduras, Germany, Russia, and etc.
Some of those who attend stay in RVs, while others stay in the dorms or cabins on the property.
According to Ron Cole, who has been coming to the campmeeting for the past 40 years, "there are two main purposes for the Campmeeting: For spiritual help and edification of all God's children across the nation, and for outreach to souls in need of God's salvation. (during the meeting, there are ) three main services each day, there will be lots of singing, preaching, praying, teaching, and baptizing. In between all of that, there will be dinner-on-the-grounds and lots of fellowship.
