The Newton County Fairgrounds was a busy place on Saturday, as volunteers with the Newton County Food Basket Brigade sorted food.

The food drive - which has been going on for 30 years - will feed around 800 plus families this year. From 9 a.m. to noon on Saturday, the countless volunteers went door-to-door picking up the non-perishable food items and bringing them to the fairgrounds. Then volunteers at the fairgrounds sorted the food which will be distributed to the families who signed up during Saturday, Dec. 16 distribution day - also at the fairgrounds.

Thie and Margaret Coulter have been volunteer at the event countless years.

"We have been doing this ever since we heard about it," said Margaret.

Asked why her and her husband help out at the food basket brigade, Margaret said, "it needs to be done and it it something that we are limited on what we can do now, but if we can help, we want to help."
