Charges in the Sunday evening robbery of the local Walgreens store have been filed against 61-year old Michael Ray Carter, 1930 South Cleveland Terrace in Joplin.

Charges in the Sunday evening robbery of the local Walgreens store have been filed against 61-year old Michael Ray Carter, 1930 South Cleveland Terrace in Joplin.
Carter is in custody in the Newton County Jail and faces two charges of first-degree robbery and armed criminal action.
Carter displayed a weapon, later identified as a BB gun by Neosho Police Chief David Kennedy, and demanded oxycodone and morphine  from pharmacist on duty at Walgreen's at 5:07 p.m. on Sunday.
The subject escaped with an undisclosed amount of prescription drugs.He left the scene driving a silver Cadillac.
A Newton County deputy attempted to stop the vehicle which led to a pursuit, which ended when Carter crashed near the intersection of North Neosho Boulevard and Spring Street. Several containers of prescriptions meds were found in the vehicle.
Carter was taken into custody and taken to Freeman Neosho Hospital for a mental evaluation.
He remains in the Newton County Jail at this time with a $100,000 bond.
Arraignment on the charges is scheduled for 9 a.m., Tuesday, Feb. 13 in Division II Newton County Court, Judge Gregory Stremel presiding.
