Missouri Senator Claire McCaskill announced last week that 17 Missouri World War II era veterans have gained the care and benefits they need from the Veterans Administration (VA).
In late 2017, President Trump signed a bill to help veterans who were intentionally exposed to mustard gas by secret Department of Defense experiments receive compensation.  The bill was sponsored by McCaskill.
Seventeen Missouri WWII era veterans have now received almost $1 million from the VA.
"I'm just so proud that we could finally get this done for our veterans," McCaskill said. "This victory was decades overdue, because of a longstanding oath of secrecy that these men were held to by the military. But for these veterans, and all the others who may still benefit in the future, I'm filled with a great satisfaction that our government finally stood up and said, "We believe you. And we stand by you."
Providing the best care possible at VA facilities has been one of McCaskill's top priorities in the Senate.
