Domino’s Pizza began preliminary work to build a new location in Neosho on Friday.
Construction crews from Bates Building LLC of Carthage. Owner Johnny Bates said his company will build Domino’s in Neosho although some facets of the project will be subcontracted.
The Neosho location will be at the site of the former Beau Monde Package Shop, which was located for many years at 908 West Harmony. Unlike the Beau Monde, which faced Harmony Street, Domino’s Pizza will face into the Harmony Street Plaza. The store will offer delivery as well as a drive-through window.
Dan and Emily Elwell currently own 7 other Domino’s locations in the area including Carthage, Joplin, Webb City, Nevada, Pittsburg, Fort Scott, and Miami.  Both Elwells began as part-time Domino’s employees, worked their way up to become general managers and then owners. The first locations that they purchased were already open for business. Their first start-up Domino’s was built in Pittsburg, Kansas. The Elwells operate as D&E Pizza LLC.
Bates stated his company has done multiple remodels of existing Domino’s locations and have also built a number of new Domino’s including several in the region.
Domino’s Pizza was found in 1960 in Michigan as DomiNick's. The name changed to Domino’s Pizza by 1965. In 2017, Domino’s Pizza had 5,295 franchised stores and another 329 company owned shops. Domino’s has also expanded worldwide into a total of 85 different countries.
Although known for their pizza and delivery services, today Dominoes also offers pasta, salad, sandwiches, breads, and desserts.
Bates said the construction should take approximately four months, depending on weather and that the store may be open sometime this summer.
By late Friday, the outline of the future store could be seen at the site on West Harmony Street.
