GRANBY — A total of 89 East Newton High School seniors entered the high school gymnasium on Sunday as seniors and left as graduates.
"Honestly, I really wasn't thinking about it until now (Sunday), but it is pretty exciting to be honest," said Rayna Hartung, a member of the class of 2018. "My family came down (from Wisconsin) and it's a big moment, I know that my grandpa is going to get really emotional, my mom especially. It is really fun to be doing this with all of my friends."
Hartung had moved from Wisconsin and started at East Newton her freshman year.
"So I met a lot of people here and it is actually fun to be graduating with them," she said. "I have a lot fond memories here, including  the homecoming events, those were a lot of fun. just hanging out with my friends, after school, a lot of my friends helped me out with projects and they stay after, the football games were a lot of fun."
Now graduated, Hartung plans on attending Crowder College and later to pursue a biology major.
"I am going to be a large animal vet for zoo animals," she said. "I am really looking forward to it. Probably a university outside of Missouri, but I am not for sure. then after that, I have to go to veterinarian school. So it is going to be a lot of school. When I was younger, I always wanted to be a veterinarian, I just changed what type, my family, we have always had tons of pets."
Another senior getting ready to graduate was Brynne Smith.
"I am pretty emotional, leaving my friends that are still here," Smith said. "My fondest memories was playing sports with all of my friends and having really good coaches. I did softball, basketball and track and field."
Smith plans on attending MSSU and possibly going into nursing or psychology.
"I like working with people and I really want to work with children. So that is a good way to be at," she said.
Asked what advice she would give her underclassmen, Smith said, "to always work hard and do your best."
