First Baptist Church of Neosho celebrated held a groundbreaking ceremony on Sunday, May 20, for a new worship center.
The future Worship Center will be 10,000 square-foot in size and cost approximately $2 million. The project will include parking lot improvements and two covered walkways for the pick-up and drop-off of parishioners.
"We believe that the Lord has given us wisdom and understanding to know how to do all of the work related to what has brought us to this point so far," said Todd Decker, lead pastor at the church, located at 12325 E. Highway 86, Neosho. "Our long range planning committee that worked for a couple of years, our building committee that has worked for couple of years, the church family, we have sought God's leading and now we pray for the building committee, we pray for Branco, Russell Architect of Springfield that God will continue to lead and give wisdom."
Construction is expected to begin shortly after the groundbreaking ceremony and wrap up in early 2019.
"The expansion, it is specifically for worship," said Decker. "We have multi-purpose space, we have education space, but that was the missing piece for the church. We need more space, we are having to flip the gym over several times to use it often on a weekend for three different events, it is pretty labor intensive, it is hard on equipment. This is going to be nice to have a place that we can just dedicate to worship."
At the end of the ceremony, people had the opportunity to take a shovel and turn some dirt, marking the beginning of the expansion.
"Our prayer is that glory of the Lord will fill this place that God was pleased. At the end of our process that the Lord will be pleased," Decker said.
