In ceremonies presided over by the 2017 Newton County Fair Queen Felicity Bruegel a new royal court was crowned at the Newton County Fairground on Sunday.

In ceremonies presided over by the 2017 Newton County Fair Queen Felicity Bruegel a new royal court was crowned at the Newton County Fairground on Sunday.
Candidates in each category and their sponsors were Jacie Barnes, Audrey Helm, Lucky Clover 4-H, Zoey Todd, Warthen and Wilson Cattle Company, Jaci Todd, Diamonate Ranch for Little Miss, Keegan Bevis, East Newton 4-H and Trevor Shaver, Shaver's Welding and Fencing, Little Mister, Elizabeth Helm, Neosho Bee Club, Chloe Wood, Prairie Rider 4-H, and Jacie Bard, Lucky Clover 4-H, Junior Princess, Kristen Bruegel, Prairie Rider 4-H, Emma Giebler, Lucky Clover 4-H, Allison Brown, Round Prairie, Vanessa Enslow, East Newton FFA, and Maelyn Wright, Round Prairie 4-H, Princess, and Emily Galbraith, Neosho FFA, Nicole Keating, Lucky Clover 4-H, Myla Hembree, Seneca FFA, Haylee Austin, Diamond FFA, for Queen.
Haylee Austin was crowned 2018 Fair Queen. The 17-year old's favorite fair memory was when the goat she was showing gave to birth to triplets on the last night of the fair.
"We didn't think she was due for two weeks," Austin said. "But it was really neat, the way everyone crowded around in the show barn to watch and the kids got to see it."
She described the qualities she possessed for queen. "I get along with pretty much everyone," Austin said. "I'm usually punctual. When I have to do a job, I give 100%."
Austin stated that one of the things that the fair does well is making show that everyone is there and that (participants) can show however many animals they want." Like most of the other queen candidates, Austin things one change that should be made to the fair is more gravel to keep mud to a minimum.
Vanessa Enslow was crowned Princess and Jacie Bard became junior princess. Little Miss Newton County is Jaci Todd and Little Mister Newton County is Keegan Bevis. Jacie's favorite fair animal are lambs while Keegan's favorite is rabbits.
The Queen and Princess will be busy during the Newton County Fair, handing out ribbons and officiating during some of the events.
