FAIRVIEW — For a number of years, former students who attended Fairview School have participated in the Fairview All School Reunion.

This year's reunion will be held on Saturday, Aug. 18, at the John Q. Hammons Community Center in Fairview.

A lunch will be held at noon and those who attended school are asked to arrive around lunchtime. They are also asked to bring old yearbooks, class photos and other classroom memorabilia.

Salutatorian of the class of 1957 Mary (Helf) Huffman attended last year's reunion and according to her in a previous article, "the school was a small school, very small. We moved here in Fairview in 1949 from Oklahoma and then I graduated in here in 1957."

Background

Fairview held its first graduating class in 1923 and the last one in 1964. It consolidated with East Newton School District. During the Fairview school days, there were two school buildings on the campus, one of which burnt in 1939 and the other one still stands, about a block south of the current community center. The Fairview School had grades first through the 12th grades, with various class sizes.
