JOPLIN — A fundraiser to help Big Brothers Big Sisters Jasper/Newton Counties will transpire this Saturday, Sept. 8.

BeerFest is at Memorial Hall in Joplin.  Doors open at 5 p.m. for VIP and 6 p.m. for general admission.  VIP tickets are $45 in advance and $50 at the door.  General admission tickets are $25 in advance and $30 at the door.  Designated drivers are encouraged – their admission is $10 and includes all the food and Coca-Cola products they want and gives them access to the silent and live auction, entertainment and games.  Veterans can purchase their tickets for $15 in advance and $20 at the door.

"The main purpose of the Frank Fletcher Toyota BeerFest is a fundraiser to help Big Brothers Big Sisters help children in our community," said Greg Spink, executive director of Big Brothers Big Sisters Jasper/Newton Counties (BBBS).  "At BBBS we believe that every child has potential – some just need a hero to help them tap into and become all they can be. BeerFest is open to all people over 21 years of age (and designated drivers 16 years and up).  We have three vendors bringing in around 60 different craft beers, there will be several restaurants on hand giving out food samples of what they can do, live entertainment a silent and live auction and games.  It is a GREAT time to try some craft beers, check out some restaurants in town, to catch up with friends, to buy some nice things and to enjoy the band that will be playing.  There will be games – hot wings contest and lots of prizes and give aways."

This is actually the ninth annual BeerFest.

"We are expecting close to 60 beers," he said. "We will have pizza, chili, breakfast foods, Mexican food, subs, homemade pasta, snow cones with adult flavors, BBQ and more. Items are still coming in for the silent and live auction.  Last year, we had a diamond pendant, two mopeds, a NASCAR fender and a Coors Mountain Beer Fridge.  Our silent auction had over 100 items in it and we don’t look at slowing down any this year.  We have gift certificates for food, services and entertainment, trips, baskets and so much more."

Tickets can be place online at www.joplinbigbro.org or at BBBS offices at 402 South Main in Joplin (Suite 402) or at El Guapo’s Pipe and Cigar Lounge located at 532 South Joplin Avenue in Joplin.
