An accident that occurred ten miles east of Neosho at 4:20 p.m. on Wednesday involved a Neosho School District Bus and another vehicle.
The accident occurred at the intersection of highways H and HH when a 1981 Chevrolet pickup truck traveling eastbound, driven by Thomas L. Austin, Harrison, AR, age 21, filed to stop for a stop sign and hit the bus broadside. According to the Missouri State Highway patrol, both vehicles traveled off the left road of the roadway and overturned. The bus came to rest on top of the pickup truck. Both vehicles were engulfed in flames
Sherry Peavy, 50, of Neosho, driver of the bus, and 43-year old Bethany A. Thomasson, Neosho, suffered minor injuries and were transported to Mercy Hospital in Joplin. Two children on the bus were unhurt.
Both the 1999 Bluebird school bus and the pickup were a total loss.
Newton County Corner Dale Owen pronounced three fatalities from the truck at 8 p.m. on Wednesday.
Waylon H. Collins, 21, Western Grove, AR and Jordon R. Pospichal, 19, Hasty, AR died in the crash.
A third fatality's name was not yet released, pending notification of next of kin.
The accident marks Troop D's 99th, 100th and 101st fatalities for 2018.
