While planning to open a pet store in Neosho, Don Middaugh was trying to come up with a name when all of the sudden it hit him while attending church at Second Baptist in Neosho.
He heard the phrase, “God’s creatures,” and knew that he had the perfect name for his new endeavor.
On Wednesday, Oct. 1, Don and his wife, Cindy, made their dream of owning a pet store in Neosho a reality when they held a grand opening for God’s Creatures Pet Shop, located at 502 W. Coler St., in Neosho.
“We used to own a pet store for six years in a different town, and I have always loved animals,” said Don, while taking a break from helping customers at his store during the noon hour Friday.
God’s Creatures Pet Shop specializes in fish, birds, exotic animals and supplies. Don said they will not be selling dogs and cats, and Cindy said customer service is important to them.
“We will strive for integrity in how we treat our customers, but also how we treat our animals,” she said. “We want to be a reflection of His goodness.”
Don said the business will carry a variety of fresh and salt-water fish, birds of all species, reptiles and small critters. The couple has been working for the past six weeks getting the business up and ready to open, and Don said they plan to “grow as they go.”
“We are going to be feeling out the market, and see what people like,” he said. “We love animals of all kinds, and will strive to have top quality, but also tame animals. We are going to try and have some unique animals that you don’t see every day.”
Don and Cindy live in Neosho, and Cindy is a 1976 graduate of Neosho High School. They attend Second Baptist Church.
