The Seneca News-Dispatch is looking for another owner.
Diane Collings Friend, publisher, said she is selling the paper to spend more time with her family. The sale of the 127-year-old newspaper is being handled by W.B. Grimes and Company.
“The Seneca News-Dispatch is a very good community newspaper,” said Mike Scott, of W.B. Grimes and Company. “Community newspapers are part of everyone’s life. They are the living history of a community, updated every week. No one else can cover your local news like your community newspaper.”
Friend has owned the Seneca News-Dispatch for 17 years, and has been with the business for 27 years. In a press release, Friend detailed the number of changes the paper has undergone during her tenure, including moving from a six-page edition to an average of 10 to 12 pages, going from black and white to full color, and offering an on-line edition.
“It’s never boring in the news business,” Friend said. “One of the best parts about being the publisher of a small weekly newspaper is that you are never stuck in the same routine day after day. You wear many hats in this business. When not serving as a reporter / photographer / editor, you may be keeping busy selling or designing advertising, handling circulation, waiting on customers or any number of duties that need to be handled around the office.
“You get to watch up close and often be involved with the many accomplishments, successes, progress and promotion of the people and the community events. Small weekly newspapers have unique opportunities to cover the ‘good news.’ ”
