The Granby City Council appointed George Kelly for the North Alderman seat during the regularly scheduled Tuesday meeting at city hall.
According to Granby Mayor Donna Fullerton, Jason White resigned right after the May 10 tornado, which left the vacancy.
“George ran on the same ballot with R.L. Arnall and he was only defeated by three votes,” noted Fullerton. “To me, he was the logical choice (to be appointed).”
Kelly will serve until April 2009, when the term will go up for re-election.
The council also appointed Bill Cooper as the mayor pro tem. He also served in that capacity last year.
Under old business, the council approved adding three more streets to the 2008 street list. The streets are Cobb Hill Road, Ackerman Drive and the alley behind H. Smith Building (by the Granby Elementary School cafeteria). Fullerton said that these streets will be laid down and not chip and seal. The previous list included 15 other streets for the project.
In other business, the council decided to hold a work session on the gas and water pipe agenda item. The work session will commence at 7 p.m. Tuesday June 17 at city hall.
The mayor also noted that an annual event will still transpire.
“We have had people calling and asking if we were going to have the Old Mining Town Days event this year,” Fullerton said. “And yes we are.”
The event will be held on Friday, July 4-Sunday, July 6.
The next council meeting will be held at 7 p.m. Tuesday, June 24 at city hall.
