The Diamond Wildcats baseball team took an early lead against Miller and cruised to a 12-3 win in Spring River Valley Conference play Tuesday.

Diamond went up 4-0 in the game, but saw the Cardinals pull within a run, 4-3, in the fourth inning. The Wildcats (4-0) then scored eight runs in the fifth inning to put the game away for good.

Incidentally, all eight runs scored with two outs on the board.

Craig VanLue hit a two-run single, while Jake Henson had an RBI single. Zach Alford and Cameron Skinner both walked with the bases loaded, and Chris Epperson was hit by a pitch to force in a run. An error accounted for the final run.

Josh Judd earned the win, throwing five innings, giving up six hits and three runs – only one earned – for Diamond. Dakota Prier tossed the final two innings.

Diamond, off to its best start in recent years, plays at 4:30 p.m. today in Purdy.
