In just a couple of weeks, the Granby Church of Christ, 516 E. Pine St., will be giving away clothing.
The event will happen from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 11, at the church. Directions are: go south on Main Street from the traffic light and then turn east on Pine Street at the Granby House Nursing Home. The building is on the right directly across from the elementary school bus barn.
“We have assembled all of the clothing from many of our members that they are not going to be needing, and we are just going to give it away to anybody that needs it,” said David Hersey, a church member.
This is the first time the church has conducted this clothing giveaway. The church has been in existence since 1957.
“We just sat down and talked about it, how we could help out folks in the community,” Hersey said. “Somebody suggested that we have a clothing giveaway. We had a surplus of clothing and we would like to help folks out if they need it.”
They will be giving all types of clothing — from summer to winter clothing for men, women and children.
“It is just clothes that the members have that they don’t need anymore,” he said. “We have more adult clothes than we do children’s clothes. We have been trying to get some of the parents to bring in some of their younger children’s clothes in because we are kind of light on those, but we do have some.”
Hersey is pleased with the outcome of his fellow church members helping out the community.
“I think that it is neat,” he said. “I was all supportive of it.”
If someone wants to donate clothing, they can call David Hersey at 918-640-0360.
