A local businesswoman needs an operation and organizers of a fundraiser are gearing up for an event to raise money to help her with the surgery.
Bettie Warren owns Betty’s Rapid Stop, 315 W. Bass St., Fairview.
The benefit will be held at 6 p.m. Saturday, at the 4B’s Hunting Resort, 15157 Walleye Rd., Fairview. It will consist of dinner, raffles and silent auction.
The menu consists of fish, hamburger, hot dogs, hush puppies, French fries, potato salad and slaw. A donation of $10 is asked. Those who are attending are asked to RSVP if possible to Hal Brown 632-4652 or Mary Ann Hill 825-1738.
“She has eye problems. She has lost the sight out of one eye already, but they think they have caught the other eye in time that they will be able to operate on it,” said Hill. “So we are just trying to help her out.”
Some of the items for the raffle/silent auction part include NASCAR and Budweiser items.
“Bettie and Pete (Bettie’s husband) are NASCAR fans,” she said.
Hill said Warren has owned the convenience store for a number of years.
“She has lived in this area for a long time,” Hill said. “We have just got to keep her here… If something happens to her, it will fold up.”
The store is more than just a place to get a bag of chips or soda pop.
“She serves specials everyday at lunch time, so she takes care of all of the farmers,” Hill said. “I stop there for coffee every morning when I come to work and I stop there when I go home.”
