Shortly after noon on Saturday, a member of the Goodman recreation board noticed the ball field shed opened.

“One of our recreation board guys drove by and noticed the doors were open,” said Stewart Pace, Goodman director for the ball program.

Pace called the Neosho Daily News around 2 p.m. Saturday.

“We just came down here (to the ball field) and saw where someone had kicked in the shed doors and stole our riding lawn mower. We are guessing that someone stole that mower.”

The mower is a 60-inch cut Dixie Chopper.

“These kids raised about $5,000 to buy this mower,” Pace said. “We have just had it maybe two months — maybe. The kids all did fundraisers and raised money to pay for most of it, the city paid for the other half.”

Pace contacted law enforcement authorities and also drove around town looking for the mower.

“If anyone knows anything about this, call Goodman City Hall (364-7316) or myself (592-7416),” he said.
