The town will hold a public hearing June 1 to decide what to do with a strip of land beside the railroad track.
First Community Bank asked to purchase a sliver of city land between the parking lot they own and the railroad track.
The city once had a walking trail beside the tracks, leaving them with a small section of property there. The
bank has discussed building a new location across from their current one and wants the extra property so they will have room for a drive-through.
Discussions with the bank have included the idea of asking them to restore the old jail building if they purchase the property and during their Tuesday meeting, Goodman board of aldermen members discussed just how much of the land belongs to the city.
Guidelines from the Missouri Municipal League recommend a public hearing before selling the property. The city noted that a sewer line runs near the tracks north of the old jail and would need to be located.
The public hearing on the city property will be held at 7 p.m. June 1 prior to the board’s regular meeting.
In other business, the board tabled estimates on a bookcase for the mayor’s office and discussed ticketing repeat offenders who do not mow their lawns.
Police Chief Tom West had a new light bar installed on the city’s new police SUV.
City Supervisor David Brodie replaced a $500 piece in the flow meter. He is in discussions with the Department of Natural Resources on the city’s water system and warned the board that major repairs will be needed to the city’s sewer system soon. Brodie again asked the board if attorney Duane Cooper had been able to collect on the city’s $300,000 lawsuit settlement. The mayor promised to look into it.
Goodman City Hall will be closed May 31 for Memorial Day.
