A Monett company donated boxes full of school supplies to the East Newton School District recently.
EFCO made the donation just a few days before students returned to schools.
“This is the third year (that we have donated to East Newton School District),” said Alan Cook, with EFCO. “They started it when Pella acquired them three years ago, and it is a program that Pella has done for years. Pella is huge in community service and volunteering stuff.”
Cook said a message went through the company to see if employees wanted to donate or they could also give money to purchase the items.
Items donated to the school district include, but are not limited to, erasers, pens, pencils, binders, paper and other items.
This year, EFCO donated to five schools.
“We started out with three or four schools, and then we try to add a school each year,” Cook said.
East Newton School District Superintendent Todd McCrackin was pleased with the generosity of EFCO.
“It is always a nice gesture by the corporations to donate school supplies to those students that may not have the resources to get the needed supplies,” McCrackin said. “We decided that we would do it with the elementary schools (Granby and Triway), the K-8 schools. The principals, the counselors and teachers will use (supplies) when obviously they come across a student maybe needing some supplies.”
Cook was also pleased with EFCO donation.
“I am very proud of them because of the economic times that are tough, some of the school lists are challenging to some individuals to provide for their kids,” Cook said. “And for a company to take notice of that, willing to help in whatever way they can, to offset some of that burden, I think that it is great.
The supplies were eventually distributed to both campuses.
