A massive food drive will be under way on Saturday at the Granby Masonic Lodge No. 514.

“We did this three weeks ago, we had 4,500 pounds of various kinds of food donated,” said Brett Hobson, with the Granby Masonic Lodge No. 514. “We distributed that throughout the city, some in the county, child services, foster homes, churches and people. It turned out to be a really good deal. I talked to Bob Franklin and Jeff Williams with AmeriCold Logistics of Carthage and within two weeks, they called me and they had 45,000 pounds of food. They liked what we had done, that it went out to various places.”

The food drive this Saturday is located in the lot next to the lodge at 514 N. Main St., Granby, and will consist of corn and broccoli. Granby is not the only Masonic lodge that will help.

“We have 11 different lodges (including Neosho and McDonald County) in a tri-county event covering Newton, McDonald and Jasper counties,” he said. “Those lodges will meet in Granby at 7 a.m. Saturday to load 100 cases of corn and 50 cases of broccoli apiece. Their lodges are going to do the same thing that we are going to do down here. Then the people can come in around 10 a.m. to the Granby lodge. Nothing can be sold, we will not take donations, this is just food that is given out to anybody that needs it. No criteria whatsoever.”

And Hobson noted this will not be the last time of the food distribution.

“The Masonic lodge is there to always do something for the community,” he said. “We try to find a way to help the community. This won’t happen with this amount of food all of the time.”
