New hours for the Neosho Police Department were released Thursday.

The office will be open: Monday 8 a.m. to noon; Tuesday 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.; Wednesday 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.; Thursday 8 a.m. to noon; and Friday 8 a.m. to noon.

Cutbacks in staff have curbed walk-in hours at the office, but only so the remaining clerk can get records processed and get the court packets for the prosecutor said Police Chief Dave McCracken.

“If we find out that we can get more done and be open more,” he said. “Then we will.”

The department started the year with three records clerks and now they have one.

“We’ll always answer the phone down there,” McCracken said. “We only have one person doing three jobs so we’re going to close the walk up area. We’re here we’re working and we’ll take phone calls.” Records are still available at the police department. Accident reports are available on the city’s website, but if people need an additional report or records, McCracken asked they call first, giving the clerk time to find and duplicate the paperwork. The department can e-mail or fax reports or hold them for pickup during business hours.

If people come to the office and need an officer, the red phone is always available.

“If they come down here and need a police officer all they have to do is pick up the red phone right there by the front door and a police officer will come,” McCracken said.
