A newly formed civic group has donated $500 to Faithful Friends Animal Advocates.

On Monday, July 11, the East Newton Leo Club – sponsored by Granby Lions Club – presented the check to FFAA, plus various other needed items such as dog food, cat food, cat litter, animal toys, food dishes and treats.

“We fundraised for three months and we got a major private donation of $250 (from Eric Geier of New York),” Leo Club president Ashley Burns said. “We also put (collection jars) up at local businesses.
“We wanted to help an animal place in our community and we felt they were great, because they are trying to build a no-kill facility and that is the main thing we wanted to get at, is that the animals would be safe, go to good homes and not be euthanized or anything.”

FFAA board member Judy Brown was pleased with the effort the Leo Club members made to come together and donate to the FFAA.

“They were a great encouragement to us, they were very supportive,” Brown said. “To see a young group of teenagers and pre-teens that are dedicated to helping with the care and rescue of animals, it is gratifying. And it is encouraging because they reach the younger kids that we don’t see. They work very hard and faithfully to get that money. The kids in the Granby area have been exceptionally supportive and worked hard.”

Currently, there are around 25 dogs and cats with the FFAA.

“A lot of (the money) will go for the veterinary care of these animals, because everything that we have to pay with is from donations,” she said.
