Soon there will be a new product within the Neosho R-5 Schools, as the board members approved a vending machine bid from Pepsi Monday night.
“Pepsi does definitely give us a better deal and estimated a larger amount of value coming back to the school,” said Dr. Richard Page, superintendent of schools.
According to Page, the Pepsi commission was projected at $90,000 and the Coke commission around $41,848. The contract is for five years.
“It is not about which one you like the best, you know, it is about which one gives you the best value,” Page said. “They are both good companies, but it is a change for us, we have been with Coke for many years.”
Page said the machines wouldn’t be located in places where students could access them in the elementary school or the middle school.
“They are all in the teachers’ lounge and the teachers have an option to buy,” said Page. “But most of the time you are seeing them in activities at the football games or basketball games, concessions and that kind of thing. This contract is an inclusive contract, and that is a little different than we have had in the past. Some of the organizations that run the concessions have not been under that same umbrella and they have gone to other groups to get their products. But now with us being all-inclusive, every organization will have that product. The benefit behind that is now they will not have to go out and get it, drag it in and carry it, try to move it. With the labor of it being brought in, will actually be done by the company.”
The Pepsi contract will handle both carbonated and non-carbonated products, with 25 percent commission on carbonated and 15 percent on non-carbonated products.
In other business, the school board members recognized Harry Lineberry for his recent induction into the Missouri Track and Cross Country Hall of Fame; Missy Cook as the certified employee of the month; Dorothy Humphrey as the classified employee of the month; and Northside Baptist Church as the patron of the month.
