Neosho, Mo. -

Since a very early age, Dr. Scott T. Godbersen, DC, 27, of 1st Choice Chiropractic Center, has wanted to become a chiropractor.

“When I was very, very young (8 years old), I had an experience with a chiropractor,” Godbersen said. “I was injured badly in a horse riding accident, and could not hardly walk. I went to the doctors and they told my dad that, ‘he is just fine,’ and a couple of weeks went by and I still hardly (couldn’t) walk. A friend of mine told my dad to go see the chiropractor and he can help.
So I did and I was back up and walking within a couple of weeks. I was running around like a little kid should. I grew up in a very rural area, and the chiropractor was the first person that we went to, because he was the closest.”

After graduation from high school, he pursued a major in college, receiving his bachelor’s degree in biology. He then went to Northwestern Chiropractic College in Minneapolis, Minn.
“I practiced in Minnesota for about 18 months, then in Oklahoma for about nine months and have been here for about two months now,” said Godbersen, who is originally from Iowa.

Why Neosho?

Godbersen grew up in a small town atmosphere in Iowa.

“I grew up in a very small town, smaller than this (Neosho),” said Godbersen. “That is what I was looking for, a small town. The small-town feeling attracted me to here. When looking around, people were friendly. It was perfect. People waved at you and said ‘hello,’ welcomed you and talked to you. It reminded me of home.”

A chiropractor includes not only doing adjustments, but helping patients with a variety of problems.

“We see about anything that comes through the office,” Godbersen said. “Headaches, back pain, acid reflex, high blood pressure, you name it, people come in for all kinds of problems. And it is really rewarding, because you help them through whatever that thing is that they are going through, and to watch somebody walk in through the door and walk out in a normal posture — it is awesome.”

He is the only member of his family that is a chiropractor.

“I played a lot of sports, football, wrestling, and all of that stuff, and he (chiropractor) kept me going,” noted Godbersen. “I was really drawn to it. I knew that I wanted to help people. Our biggest goal is we want to help create a healthy community. Chiropractic medicine can help with a lot of different stuff. I know for a fact that there is all kinds of research that people that get adjusted are healthy people.”

Since he has been in the business here in Neosho, he said that business has been really good.

“We have been blessed with several new patients that have been getting better,” said Godbersen. “I am happy to be here.”
