Customers, community leaders and bank employees celebrated the groundbreaking for a new 4,800-square-foot branch near Walmart.
Nearly 100 people gathered at the corner of Highway 59 and Clemons Drive for the First Community Bank ceremony Tuesday morning.
Dale Cole, chairman and CEO of First Community Bank, said the bank’s mindset is to build up the communities where their bank customers are. The relationship with a community, he said, is long-term.
“Community comes first,” Cole said.
Along with the construction announcement, Cole introduced Vance Keaton as the new Neosho First Community Bank president.
“I’ve often said that our success is because of quality people,” he said.
Established Aug. 4, 1997, in Batesville, Ark., the bank has expanded north into Newton and McDonald counties. First Community Bank currently has several locations in Arkansas and Missouri locations in downtown Neosho, Goodman and Jane. The new building site, at the former location of Whitman’s Trailer Sales, will expand them to two Neosho locations.
Bids for the building were opened earlier this year and Cline Construction Group won the contract with a bid of $999,952. Bank officials hope to have the project done in 180 days and open next year.
In Goodman, the bank plans to build a new structure across the street from their current one, replacing the older building. A groundbreaking for the Goodman location is slated for next year.
Several community members spoke at the dedication.
Bill Reiboldt, 130th District Representative-elect, congratulated the bank for their support of agriculture and area fairs.
Neosho Chamber of Commerce president Rick Rogers said the bank’s goals aligned with what the chamber is trying to do.
“Our focus is growing the community, helping the business community grow and prosper,” Rogers said.
Neosho Mayor Richard Davidson congratulated the bank on their continued growth and expansion.
“Seeing such an expansion during slow economic times, I think, is encouraging for Neosho,” Davidson said, “and dedicating the financial resources necessary for this expansion shows a level of trust and commitment to our community that it is a solid safe place to invest and is someplace that’s growing. As a homegrown boy myself and as a business owner, I truly believe that.”
