Becky Bolton lost her wedding ring more than a year ago to a fire. Recently she lost its replacement, but only for an hour or so.
“I was pulling into Dollar General (in Goodman), had taken off my rings to put on my lotion and had forgotten to put my ring back on,” said Bolton. “I wasn’t aware that it was on the ground when I got out of the car.”
She went home to cook dinner and that is when she realized her ring was gone. She drove back up to Dollar General.
“I was thinking that I wasn’t going to find my ring,” Bolton noted.
“I was on the parking lot looking for it on the ground when one of the employees here (Barbara Houtz, manager of Dollar General) asked me to come over here, she would like to ease my mind.”
Houtz stated she was outside taking a break when she spotted something shiny in the parking lot.
“I went and picked it up and it was a wedding ring,” Houtz said. “I put it in my pocket to take it in and put it in the safe, so that when someone came to ask for it, they could get it back.”
Houtz then presented Bolton with the ring.
“I was in tears,” Bolton said. “When I took the ring from her, I hugged her and hung on for a long time. I just couldn’t let go, I was very thankful.”
On Wednesday, the two women met at Dollar General to pose for a picture and an interview with the Neosho Daily News.
After the interview, Bolton presented Houtz with a flower bouquet.
“I wish that I could do a whole lot more for her, just because she did a great thing,” Bolton said. “I wanted her to know that it was really appreciated what she did for me.”
Holding the flowers, Houtz said, “I just did what was right. That is how I was raised.”
