With a unanimous vote by the city council Monday, the Diamond Police Department was authorized to purchase a police cruiser.
According to the city council’s minutes, Diamond Police Chief Keith Brumfield gave details of the police car purchase to the board. A surplus police vehicle is available from MHP surplus property. Gary Armstrong made a motion to go ahead and purchase the police car with a total budget of $15,000 to cover all replacement vehicle expenses.
Under new business, the council also:
n Accepted the resignation of Steve Akehurst from the Board of Alderman. To fill the position, Diamond Mayor Steve Carter appointed Nancy Lewis to fill the unexpired term of Akehurst for the west ward. The motion was accepted.
n Fred Ellison made the motion to accept Chuck Forest’s letter of resignation as water / wastewater superintendent, which carried.
n Carter also contracted Duane Lynch to act as water/wastewater superintendent until Aug. 15. The mayor has directed Duane Lynch to work primarily in placing the city’s combined waterworks / sewage system into DNR compliance. The motion carried.
n The mayor appointed Fran Horton as the city clerk and appointed Teresa Setser as the court clerk.
n Appointed the accounting firm of Kelley and Compton as city treasurer.
