Soon-to-be Seneca grads came together for their baccalaureate service Wednesday night.

Approximately half of the graduating class and some 300 friends and family members filed into the new gymnasium. John St. Clair, Racine Christian Church, welcomed the students.

“We’re going to worship the living God who gave you life,” St. Clair said.

He told students he hoped they would “pray to a big, big God who is big enough for any problem you might face.”

Led by students and Phil Weece of Racine Christian Church the group sang worship choruses. The Jive Tribe also sang a selection.

Jim Wilson of Seneca First Baptist Church spoke to students, telling them “God wants to empower your life.”

Students today face challenges, he said, but this year’s graduating class is up to them.

“I believe we’re raising as good of a group as we have ever had, and maybe even better,” Wilson said. “Guys, let me tell you you’re the achievers and the cream of the crop.”

God rewards knowledge and wisdom, hard work, and faith in Jesus Christ, Wilson told the group. He urged them to continue learning, never be afraid to get their hands dirty in work and believe in God.

“Don’t consider this as the end of your education, but as the beginning,” Wilson said. “Don’t be content with being average and ordinary.”

He noted the brevity of life and the recent loss on one of their classmates and urged students to focus on God.

“Life is not worth living if it is not for the person of Jesus Christ,” Wilson said. “We don’t know what tomorrow holds for any one of us.”

Doug Lawson of Seneca Christian Church offered a closing prayer, asking God to acknowledge the work students have done thus far and blessing them in the future.

“You know each one of these students and each one matters to you,” Lawson said. “Each of these students has a future and it’s our prayer that they would entrust that future to you today, tomorrow and for eternity.”
