Reginald (Reggie) M. Tiller, currently superintendent at George Washington Carver National Monument, has been named the new superintendent for William Howard Taft National Historic Site in Cincinnati, Ohio.
He succeeds Robin White, who will become superintendent at Little Rock Central High School National Historic Site in August. Tiller will report to his new position Aug. 3.
“Reggie’s experience in park management will serve him well in this new assignment,” said Ernest Quintana, regional director for Midwest Region.
“We’re excited about the skills and talent he will contribute to the park.”
“I am looking forward to beginning my tenure at William Howard Taft National Historic Site,” said Tiller. “President Taft’s political career was unique and his public service was and is a model for aspiring politicians to follow. The staff and I will work hard to continue the good programs that Robin White has established with the community through continued civic engagement and innovative programming. It is a special opportunity to serve as superintendent at a presidential site and to further the understanding of the leadership that is needed to lead a nation.”
Tiller began his NPS career in 1998 as a park ranger at Rocky Mountain National Park, where he managed campground operations and supervised campground staff. He returned to the NPS in 2005 as the superintendent at Florissant Fossil Beds National Monument, managing nearly 6,000 acres of the richest and most diverse fossil deposits in the world. Tiller assumed his current position in 2006.
Tiller helped to complete an 18,000 square-foot expansion of the existing visitors’ center and helped to refocus staff toward a historical interpretation of George Washington Carver’s life and legacy. This has led to renewed and increased interest from Missouri State University and the University of Missouri-Columbia as a research location for both natural and cultural resources. These relationships will provide ongoing opportunities for internships for students to learn and share Dr. Carver’s unique life.
Prior to his federal service, Tiller was an internal investigator for the Tennessee State Parks, involved in training development and assisting senior management in setting direction for the Tennessee parks. He was also executive director of First Steps, Inc., in Nashville, responsible for community relations, financial development, and the leadership and management of two childcare facilities. Prior to that position, Tiller served as the founding executive director for the Stratford/Richardson YMCA (formerly the West Boulevard YMCA) in Charlotte, N.C.
Tiller is an Erin, Tenn., native and earned both a bachelor of science and master of arts in organizational management from Trevecca Nazarene University in Nashville. He is also working towards a doctorate from Regent University in Virginia Beach, Va.
